Common Core

Interactivity with challenging literature and information texts, increased focus on high-order thinking skills and comprehension, close reading, and drawing evidence are high-level changes that reflect the rigor of the new Common Core State Standards. Our reading programs have been redesigned with the new standards in mind, providing solutions to address your adoption, implementation and classroom content needs.

  • Journeys Common Core is a rigorous K–6 core reading program created to help students successfully meet the Common Core State Standards. Like the standards themselves, Journeys Common Core reflects an integrated model of literacy where instruction and application in the four strands—Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening, and Language—are linked to the complex texts and topics with which students engage.
  • Literacy by Design® incorporates the gradual release of responsibility model—the underlying principle of a balanced literacy approach—into the instructional design for reading and writing. The strategic design of the program ensures Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for every student by teaching grade-level skills along with developmental skills—all within a structure that supports a balanced literacy model of instruction.
